Video Demo submissions are short motion presentations that showcase examples best communicated in this format or provide supplementary content to another submission (e.g. a paper). Video demos can, but are not restricted to present your study design, data collection design, progress over time, study results, research projects, design concepts and visions of the future.

We particularly encourage video submissions that go beyond standard presentation formats that would be part of a presentation in the papers or work-in-progress track. Please note that filmed (or animated) content is expected – recorded slideshows will not be accepted.

Submission deadline (extended): July 10, 2025 Submissions are accepted until 11:59 pm AoE (Anywhere on Earth).

Submissions should contain a video, (.MP4 or .MOV) thumbnail image (JPG or PNG) and subtitle file (.SRT) and an extended abstract that describes the submission. While the content can be an illustrative description of studies, labs and projects, we are looking for contributions that are citable as a scientific contribution and do not qualify as an advertisement. Video submissions can be a side product of a research contribution to other conference tracks (e.g., an illustrative description of a test track or a new experience measurement methodology or a dynamic description of a research prototype); however, they need to stand alone and be understandable without having to look at the related contribution.

Chairs: Mohammad Faramarzian, Sol Hee Yoon, and Myounghoon Jeon
Further Details

Video showcases have become an integral part of the Auto-UI program and community. We would like to invite you to submit self-explanatory videos related to various aspects of Auto-UI. The video submissions can focus on the presentation of study design, data collection design, progress over time, study results, research projects, design concepts and visions of the future, whereby we particularly encourage humorous, entertaining, and/or visually impressive contributions. Video submissions are independent of other conference tracks but can support e.g. data or visualisations of papers or work in progress. We are looking forward to receiving your submissions and to meeting you at the Auto-UI 2025 conference!

videos(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)auto-ui.org

General formats and template information can be found here!

Submission format: Not anonymised, a maximum of 3-minute video accompanied by an extended abstract. Submissions should observe the single-column CHI Extended Abstract template and should be no more than 2-4 pages (not including references and auxiliary information).

Failure to submit either file will result in an automatic rejection.

Your Submission

Video Specification

To ensure the best video experience for the video track, we ask for specific settings for your video.

Create the video with the software of your preference. There are lots of free alternatives (e.g. Hitfilm Express, DaVinci Resolve, Apple iMovie) but you can also use paid alternatives.

Create your project with the following settings:

Most of the named video software packages export your video already in the following settings.

Use the following settings:

The exported file size should not exceed 250 MB. We recommend using a video transcoder to make your video smaller without losing too much quality. (Handbrake for Windows, Mac and Linux). Do not use Digital Right Management (DRM) on your video file submission.

Captions and Subtitles

All spoken dialog must be in English and closed captioned (subtitled) to improve accessibility. You should include subtitles or captions to your video to guarantee that it can be consumed in places with ambient noise, where sound is unacceptable, and by hearing-impaired individuals.

A closed-captioning file, in .srt format should be submitted along the video. There are several free, easy ways to caption you videos. We recommend uploading your video to YouTube and use the provided captioning tools; You can keep the video private or unlisted and delete it immediately after. The latest version of Adobe Premier Pro has a feature to create automatic subtitles (Learn here). Please make sure you review the automatic transcription as there is a strong chance of a mistranscribed word. You have the choice to manually create all captions, or let YouTube automatically generate captions and manually correct them. Afterwards, you can download the .srt-file.

Third-Party Material and Copyright

Authors retain copyright to videos, but ACM requires that you sign an agreement allowing ACM to distribute the material.

It is very important that you have the right to use all the material that is contained in your submission, including music, video, images, etc. Attaining permissions to use video, audio, or pictures of identifiable people or proprietary content rests with the author, not the ACM or the AutoUI conference.

Note: You will be asked to confirm that you agree with these policies on the final submission form.

The videos will be uploaded to YouTube. YouTube will show advertisements with videos that contain monetised audio content, regardless of what copyright is associated with that content. To ensure that your video can be shown without advertisements, we recommend that you upload your video to YouTube in advance before submission, set to “private” or “unlisted”, to check whether it is used for monetisation.

Sanity Check

Please ensure that content is appropriate in terms of rights and taste, does not contain inappropriate language, viewpoints or imagery and is unlikely to cause offence to any individuals or groups either present at the conference or beyond.

Extended Abstract

Curated content is highly selective but does not necessarily follow a reviewing process by a committee. Curated content may be selected from submissions or invited by the track chairs. Authors should not expect to receive formal feedback on their submission other than the selection decision.

Videos will be curated by the Videos Chairs (and possibly a small group of curators), according to two main criteria:

Original video submissions will be prioritised, but videos that have been published or released previously will also be given consideration. If a video has been published or released previously, please make clear in your submission any prior exposure your video has received.

Submissions should not contain sensitive, private, or proprietary information that cannot be disclosed at publication time. Submissions should NOT be anonymous. However, confidentiality of submissions will be maintained during the review process. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference, with the exception of title and author information which may be published on the website prior to the conference.

Authors of accepted submissions will receive instructions on how to prepare and submit the publication-ready version, and details on the video presentation and scheduling at the conference.

A member of the program committee and the publication chairs will check that the final versions meet the requirements for publication and if so, will finalize the acceptance. Authors are encouraged to submit their revisions earlier than the deadline, in case it is judged that the video and extended abstract do not meet the committee requirements. If the authors are unable to meet these requirements by the deadline, the videos chairs will be notified and may be required to remove the extended abstract and video from the program.

Upon acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline in order for the video and extended abstract to be published.

At least one author is expected to register for the conference. A time and location will be assigned to the video session, and the video will be showcased in a previously communicated slot.

Video submissions whose authors are not at the conference may be withdrawn from the Extended Abstracts and the Digital Library.

Accepted videos and extended abstracts will be made available in the Auto-UI Adjunct Proceedings, distributed by the conference (e.g., on the conference website) and will secure publication in the ACM Digital Library, where they will remain accessible to researchers and practitioners worldwide. The Videos will be published on YouTube after the conference in the SIGCHI library.

Video At a Glance Video Demo submissions are short motion presentations that showcase examples best communicated in this format or provide supplementary content to another submission (e.g. a paper).
