A Work in Progress (WiP) is a concise report of late-breaking findings or other types of innovative or thought-provoking work relevant to the AutomotiveUI community. It represents work that either has yet to reach the level of completion expected of a conference paper or for which a conference paper is not the most effective communication method. That said, appropriate submissions should contribute to the body of AutomotiveUI knowledge, whether realised or promised.

Submission deadline: June 26, 2025</s>
Decision notification: July 24, 2025</s>
Camera ready to TAPS: August 14, 2025

Submissions are accepted until 11:59 pm AoE (Anywhere on Earth).

Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts formatted following the new single-column ACM SIGCHI format. Submissions will be accepted through the Precision Conference Submission system. Accepted Work-in-Progress extended abstracts will be made available in the AutomotiveUI Adjunct Proceedings, distributed by the conference (e.g., on the conference website) and will secure publication in the ACM Digital Library, where they will remain accessible to researchers and practitioners worldwide.

A significant benefit of a Work-in-Progress derives from the discussion between the author and conference attendees fostered by the “face-to-face” presentation of the work. In this spirit, accepted submissions will be presented using interactive digital posters on The Cube. The Cube is located at QUT’s Science and Engineering Centre and is one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and presentation display spaces. It consists of extensive multi-touch screens, which allow for various interactive poster content. Successful submissions will be informed of interactive poster requirements and guidelines for The Cube upon acceptance.

For each submission, one of the authors (usually the contact author) must be nominated to act as a reviewer for other WIP submissions. Each assigned reviewer will be expected to review two proposals. This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn about cutting-edge research. In addition, for Ph.D. students, it may be an excellent first exposure to the review process.

Chairs: Seulchan Lee, Jeannie S. Lee, Levi Swann General formats and template information can be found here!

Extended Abstract: An extended abstract is required for WiP and must be formatted following the new single-column ACM SIGCHI format.

Page Limit:

Any submission exceeding the page limits and/or not adhering to the template will be automatically rejected.

See details about the use of the templates.

Accessibility:

Authors are asked to review the ACM’s guidelines for accessibility to ensure that submissions are aligned with the requirements for accessible submissions. Please refer to the instructions on creating an accessible ACM conference paper for information on how to make your PDF file accessible (https://sigchi.org/resources/guides-for-authors/accessibility/). For any questions regarding accessibility, please contact the accessibility co-chairs at accessibility(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)auto-ui.org.

Anonymisation:

The submissions need to be anonymised for double-blind review. We use a relaxed model that does not attempt to conceal all traces of identity from the body of the paper. However, you do need to remove identifying information from the title/header area of the paper and also make sure that it does not appear in the document’s metadata. Citations to your previous work must NOT be anonymised so that reviewers can ensure that all previous research has been taken into account. We encourage authors to refer to their previous work in the third person. Further suppression of identity in the body of the paper, while encouraged, is left to the authors’ discretion.

The Extended Abstract should explicitly communicate the following:

Due to the short selection cycle, there will not be an opportunity to make major changes in the extended abstracts between your submissions and the camera-ready final documents. Please ensure that your submission is as close to camera-ready as possible.

The submissions will be selected using a double-blind review process. Neither the reviewers will know the names of the authors, nor will the authors know the names of the reviewers. After the initial reviewers make their recommendation, the Work-in-Progress Chairs will make the final decision. Accepted submissions will be made available in the AutomotiveUI Adjunct Proceedings, distributed by the conference (on the conference website), and appear in the ACM Digital Library. All submissions are considered confidential during the review process.

Each submission will be reviewed on the following criteria, acknowledging the early-stage nature of the work:

During the WiP review, the first two criteria (‘ability to engender discussion’ and ‘originality’) will be considered twice as important as the other criteria and, therefore, will be weighted accordingly.

The extended abstract shall not contain sensitive, confidential, or proprietary information that cannot be disclosed at publication time. Confidentiality of submissions will be maintained during the review process. All rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. All submitted materials for accepted submissions will be kept confidential until the start of the conference, except for title and author information which will be published on the website before the conference. Summaries of completed work or reduced versions of main track AutomotiveUI submissions are inappropriate as a Work-in-Progress submission and will be rejected.

WiP submission authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by July 24, 2025. Authors of accepted submissions will receive instructions on preparing and submitting the final formatted version and details on the poster presentation, and scheduling at the conference.

A member of the program committee and the publication chairs will check that your final output meets the requirements for publication and if so, will finalise the acceptance. Authors are encouraged to submit their final revision earlier than the deadline in case it is judged that the paper needs revisions to meet the committee requirements. If authors cannot meet these requirements by the deadline, the program chairs will be notified and may be required to remove the paper from the program.

Upon acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline for the work-in-progress abstracts to be published.

At AutomotiveUI in 2025, all posters will be digitally presented on The Cube (http://www.thecube.qut.edu.au/). The Cube will enable posters to include various interactive content, such as videos and/or animations. We expect that the digital poster format allows authors to present their work in a more sophisticated way. Authors can request an interactive poster placement in PCS when submitting their work.
