Submission of Papers

Deadline: July 18th, 2011 (closed)

Authors are invited to submit papers that are 4 or 8 pages long, formatted in accordance with the two-column ACM SIGCHI format. We are happy to consider a variety of styles for inclusion in the proceedings, such as academic papers, design sketches, interaction concepts, and industrial case studies. The papers will be selected in a peer-review process. All accepted submissions will be included in the conference proceedings.

Please format your paper according to the ACM SIG Format templates. Submissions do not need to be anonymous.

Please submit your work using the Conference Paper Submission System.

At the conference the work will be presented as talks or interactive demos. For 8-page papers the default presentation format is a talk. For 4-page papers the authors will be able to specify their preferred presentation format. Accompanying videos are encouraged both in the submission and presentation phases.

In case of acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline in order for the final version of the paper to be published in the conference proceedings.

Submission of Workshops

Deadline: August 1st, 2011 (extended)

For the first time in 2011, AutomotiveUI will open with a day of selected workshops. Workshops provide an opportunity to get to know like-minded researchers and practitioners who are attending the main conference, and to discuss themes of common interest in a somewhat less formal setting. We particularly encourage workshop proposals covering emerging and future trends in the field, but the topic areas are wide open. Workshops should strive to move the field forward and suggest promising new research directions. They can be scheduled either for a half day (3 hours) or full day (6 hours) in duration.

Interested workshop organizers are requested to submit a proposal to the conference co-chairs. If the proposal is accepted, the workshop is publicized as part of the conference program and potential participants are asked to submit a position paper. The criteria, reviewing and acceptance is handled by the workshop organizers themselves. Workshops are only open to people accepted by the workshop organizers and who register for the main conference. A minimum number of attendees for a workshop will be defined by the conference.

Workshop proposals should be submitted as 4-page (maximum) write-ups in the Papers & Notes format (see below). Please cover the general goal of the workshop, the topics to be discussed, a proposal for the schedule of the workshop, the preferred duration (either half-day or full-day), the type of participants you will expect to take part, your ideas for publicizing the workshop, procedures for handling the reviews, and some thoughts about how the outcome of the workshop can be captured and perpetuated in a meaningful way. Upon proposal acceptance, organizers should set up an external web page delivering all the necessary information for interested participants.

A final workshop overview based on the submitted proposal will appear in the adjunct proceedings. The adjunct proceedings will be published on the conference website. Please format your workshop submission according to the ACM SIG Format templates.

Submissions should be 4 pages maximum including the authors‘ names and the following copyright statement:

Submission of Posters & Interactive Demos

Deadline: October 10th, 2011

Posters

Posters should report ongoing or late-breaking work with a high potential to discuss and display at the conference with the other participants. Posters are a good way to publish and get feedback about work in progress, including student projects, in a less formal setting.

The archival format for this track is a 2-page abstract that will appear in the adjunct proceedings of the conference. In addition to the abstract, poster submissions may include an poster supplement that can be used to convey to reviewers any visual aspects of the poster that may not be captured in the abstract (e.g., a key graphic). Poster submissions should not be anonymized. The supplemental page is for review purposes only and will not be published. The adjunct proceedings will be published on the conference website. Posters will be displayed during the conference coffee breaks, and authors will have one minute each to introduce their posters to the conference audience. This year we will have poster walls sized 970x1470mm; we recommend to use format A0 (841x1189mm; portrait format). We provide no templates, design your poster as you like...
Please format your abstract according to the ACM SIG Format templates.
The abstract should be 2 pages in length and in camera-ready format, including the authors‘ names and the following copyright statement:

Adjunct Proceedings

Please submit your work (abstract, poster supplement) using the Conference Poster & Demos Submission System.

In case of acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline in order for the poster abstract to be published in the adjunct conference proceedings.

Deadline: October 10th, 2011

Interactive Demos

Interactive Demos provide an opportunity to show research prototypes and work-in-progress to colleagues for comment in a relaxed atmosphere. Both independent demonstrations and those accompanying accepted papers are welcome. Interactive demos will be included in the adjunct proceedings of the conference. Submissions must, in addition to the 2-page abstract contain a demonstration supplement that details how the demo will be shown during the conference and how conference attendees will interact with the demo system. This description can be either given with a storyboard, textual description enriched with photos/screenshots, illustrations, link to (externally provided) videos, etc. Demo submissions should not be anonymized. The supplemental material is for review purposes only and will not be published.

Accommodations at the conference venue will be limited, so potential participants should plan to be mobile and self-supported. For better planning, the demo supplement must also describe the technical requirements of the demo (required visual and acoustical settings, space requirements, the power supply needed, networking options, etc.). Accepted demos will be on display in a dedicated, interactive demo session. This year we will have poster walls sized 970x1470mm; we recommend to use format A0 (841x1189mm; portrait format). We provide no templates, design your poster as you like... Authors of demos are furthermore required to introduce their showcase in person to the conference audience (1 minute).

Please format your abstract according to the ACM SIG Format templates.
The abstract should be 2 pages in length and in camera-ready format, including the authors‘ names and the following copyright statement:

AutomotiveUI'11, November 29-December 2, 2011, Salzburg, Austria
Adjunct Proceedings

Please submit your work (demonstration abstract plus mandatory supplement) as a single PDF file using the Conference Poster & Demos Submission System. (If the submissions contains multimedia material such as videos, it should be compressed into a single ZIP file for upload.)

In case of acceptance, at least one author must register for the conference by the early registration deadline in order for the demo abstract to be published in the adjunct conference proceedings.

Industrial Showcase

Deadline: October 10th, 2011

We encourage submissions from industry that showcase recent developments, new ideas, new intellectual property, demonstrations and prototypes, tools, or any other contribution of industrial relevance. The goal is to discuss the industry’s viewpoints, needs and activities and to close the gap between research and practice. Submissions are not bound to any specific format. As a default, please use the format for Posters & Interactive Exhibits, but we are happy to discuss alternative ways to submit and to present your piece.

Industrial Showcase pieces will appear in the adjunct proceedings. The adjunct proceedings will be published on the conference website.

Submissions must be made by sending them directly to industrial@auto-ui.org.

Deadline: October 10th, 2011
