Compared to Stockholm, Gothenburg feels more laid-back, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and culture—especially music, food, and design. The city is also one of Scandinavia’s key education hubs, home to two major universities:

  • Chalmers University of Technology: A prestigious technical university specializing in engineering, technology, and architecture. It has a strong international reputation and close ties to industry. Together, these institutions give Gothenburg a vibrant student life and make it an important center for research and innovation in Sweden.
  • University of Gothenburg: A large, comprehensive university offering a wide range of programs in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, fine arts, and health sciences. It’s well known for research and its integration with the city.
